I know there are a lot of folks out there with diabetes, and odds are you probably know someone who has it.  This past year, one of my oldest friends found out he is diabetic.  He and I had been roommates for three years in college, twice actually sharing the same room.  I’ve known people who have had diabetes before, but I never knew anyone close to me.  When he found out and told me, it was one of those moments where it really struck home.

Also, every time I type the word “diabetes,” I hear Wilford Brimley in my head pronouncing it like “die-a-beet-uss.”
